Sorry for not posting yesterday. I was feeling a little under the weather, and so I just tried to chill yesterday. Jessica went out with Amada (one of the girls that we met from the music school that came to North Carolina). Amada stopped by the hotel on Saturday to check on us to make sure that we were doing okay and she has offered to go different places with us. She speaks English very well, and so that might be a big help in some areas. She teaches English three times a week and we have agreed to go in every so often and give her students a chance to speak with native speakers.
Last night we attended Shalom. It was pretty cool and different then most night services back in the states. It was about 2 hours long and most of it was filled with singing. There was one or two songs that had familiar beats, but Jess and I couldn't place them. They introduced us to the congregation and had us stand up. The pastor spoke on Revelation 3:14-22. It was good to hear that passage as a reminder. I had those verses up in my room back at school. He spoke on how we need to be on fire for God, because it disgusts God when we are neither hot nor cold.
Today we got up and did our Bible studies and discussed them over breakfast. I'm reading in 1 Timothy right now and I came across this familiar verse:
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity".
1 Timothy 4:12
It really made me think about the fact that we are young and are missionaries in a foreign country. Everything that we do should be above board and should be as an example to other believers--and to non-believers as well.
After breakfast, we went with Fany to city hall to meet with some people, but they were in a meeting and so we made an appointment for another time. As we were walking back to the hotel we saw Pedro--the director of the music school. We spoke with him for a bit and then we headed on. He's going to come by the hotel and some point and we are going to go with him to the music school to visit. We came back to the hotel to drop our stuff, and then Jessica and I made our first excursion into the city on our own. There is a little coffee shop that is not even a two minute walk from the hotel. We went in and got frappuccino and a small pastery that was filled with pineapple filling. It was pretty good and all together it only cost 30 cordobas. Or, $1.50.
Pretty good for all of that. We hung out there for a bit and journaled and planned some of the things that we need to do. We're taking it slower this first week until we know our way around better. This week our goals are to get to the hospital and to the music school to visit. Dr. Boudreau is coming down next week, and so we want to be ready for when he comes. We'll probably be heading up to check out Datanli soon. We've been teaching some English to the staff here and they are eager to learn.
Not much else going on here. We're hanging out at the hotel right now. It's getting ready to rain soon--(it rains around the same time almost everyday). Hope all is well with you guys and as always--thanks for keeping up with me!
